Majel Connery Directs a New Opera in San Francisco
This March, Majel directs a new opera, Death With Interruptions, in San Francisco.
Based on Jose Saramago's novel of the same name, the opera is composed by Rome Prize, Berlin Prize and Guggenheim Fellow Kurt Rohde with a libretto by Tom Laqueur, Helen Fawcett Professor of History at the University of California, Berkeley. In 2008, Laqueur was awarded $1.5 million from the Mellon Foundation for his work in sexology. So, naturally, he decided to create an opera! In this strange and lovely piece, Death falls in love with a cellist and the next day...no one dies.
Performances are March 19 and 21, 2015 at the Oberlin Dance Collective in San Francisco, presented by Left Coast Chamber Ensemble.
Tickets can be purchased here.
